The Bharat International Rice Conference (BIRC) 2025 began in New Delhi with strong participation from Indian rice exporters, farmers, and global delegates. The event marks a major step toward expanding India’s global rice trade.

India Eyes Bigger Share in Global Rice Exports

Indian Rice Exporters Federation (IREF) National President Prem Garg announced that India aims to raise its global rice export share from 40% to 60%.
Speaking to ANI, Garg said, “This year, India is not only the largest rice exporter but also the top producer in the world. We’ve surpassed China. Now, our goal is to export more so that farmers can earn better returns.”

Massive Participation Across States and Nations

The conference, initiated by Indian rice exporters, saw participation from farmers across 21 states, around 55 diplomats, and thousands of buyers.
Furthermore, over 3,000 to 4,000 exporters and startups showcased innovations in rice cultivation and processing at the event. Live rice processing plant demonstrations were among the key highlights.
In addition, Garg emphasized that the overwhelming response exceeded expectations, calling it a first-of-its-kind global effort by the Indian Rice Exporters Federation.

Focus on Trade Expansion and Market Access

According to Garg, the U.S. tariffs will have minimal impact on Indian exports.
He explained, “The U.S. imports only 270,000 tonnes of rice. We have opened new markets worth nearly two million tonnes this year, far beyond the U.S. demand.”
Further, this aligns with India’s broader goal to explore new rice markets and enhance its position among the top 10 rice exporting countries.

Call for Government Support

Garg urged the government to support the rice sector through logistics and port upgrades.
He said, “Our only request is to ban harmful pesticides and improve port infrastructure. Apart from that, the rice industry is self-sufficient.”
His remarks reflect the industry’s confidence in sustaining growth without heavy government subsidies.

A Platform for Global Trade and Innovation

The two-day BIRC 2025 has attracted over 80 international delegates, including leading importers, scientists, and policymakers.

The event offers a platform for collaboration and knowledge sharing on sustainability, rice prices in India, and trade transparency.
It also highlights India’s growing dominance among the top 10 rice exporters in India and the top rice exporting companies in the world.
